About Ideation Partners

The market is full of AI claims. Here is what stands behind ours.

Ideation Partners is a data and AI consultancy based in Auckland, New Zealand.

We are backed by Verde Group, whose practices have spent more than twenty-five years implementing and supporting the systems New Zealand businesses run on.

The practice exists because the conversation our clients want to have has changed. For most of those twenty-five years the question was which system to run. Increasingly the question is what to do with everything those systems have accumulated, and how to make better decisions faster with it. That is a different discipline, and it deserved its own practice rather than being bolted onto an existing one.

PROOF BEFORE PROMISES

What stands behind the claims

Twenty-five years inside the systems that hold your data

Between them, the group's practices have spent more than two decades implementing, customising and supporting the finance and operational systems New Zealand businesses depend on. That heritage is our proof, not our identity. But when the hardest part of a job is getting clean, meaningful data out of a system and understanding what it means, two decades inside those systems is not a small advantage.

Context is the moat, not the model

The frontier AI models are extraordinary and they are available to everyone, including your competitors. Better models do not fix fractured context. What determines whether AI works in your business is whether it can reach the right data, understand how your business actually uses it, and be governed so the right people see the right things. That layer is the work, and it compounds: build it once, and every use case after the first is faster and cheaper.

We run it on ourselves first

We do not sell anything we have not put through our own business. Our own estate is the test bed: our email, our documents, our meeting transcripts, our support history, our system data, connected into the same kind of governed layer we build for clients. Every method, template and governance rule we deploy has been tried on us first, including the ones that did not work. We publish what we learn, including the failures.

We are the right size for the businesses we serve

The global advisory firms have pivoted hard into AI and they are formidable. They are also built for enterprise budgets, enterprise timelines and enterprise problems. We work with businesses large enough that the data problem is real and expensive, and small enough that a six-figure discovery phase is not a serious proposition. Everything about how we work, from the size of the first step to the way we price, is shaped by that.

We build with these tools, not just about them

Our team is certified across the Anthropic stack we build on: the Claude API, agentic coding, agent skills, and the Model Context Protocol that connects AI to business systems. That last one is not incidental. MCP is the mechanism by which a model reaches your finance system, your documents and your operational tools, and it is the difference between an AI that talks about your business and one that can actually read it.

Claude is our default model. We are not locked to it, and we will build on whatever your governance and your stack require.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Four things we will not move on

The value comes before the technology. If we cannot point to where the return is, there is nothing to build.

Proof beats promises. We would rather show you a rough working thing on your own data than a polished slide about someone else's.

Say the unwelcome thing. Telling a client a use case is not worth doing is part of the job.

Encode the learning. Every engagement should make the next one faster. If it does not, we are just doing consulting.

QUESTIONS ABOUT WORKING WITH US

The things worth asking

What should we ask any AI consultant before hiring them?

Ask what happens if the idea does not work, and listen for whether there is a cheap way to find out. Ask whether they will build on your systems or theirs. Ask what you own at the end of the first engagement. Ask them to describe a time they told a client not to proceed.

Should we build this in house instead?

Sometimes, and we will say so. If you have the engineering capacity and the problem is well understood, an internal build can be the right answer. The pattern we see fail is a capable internal team given an unranked wish list and no way to tell which item is worth the effort.

What AI tools do you actually use?

Claude, mostly, including inside our own business rather than only in client work. Our team is certified in building with the Claude API, in agentic coding, and in the Model Context Protocol that connects models to business systems. Where a client's environment calls for something else, we use something else.

Are you tied to a particular AI vendor?

Claude is our default and it is what our team is certified on, so it is where we are fastest. That is a preference, not a lock-in. We build on your stack, and if your governance, your existing licences or your Microsoft or Google footprint point elsewhere, we work there instead. Your data, governance and running costs stay in your control either way.

How is Ideation Partners related to Verde Group?

Ideation Partners is backed by Verde Group, which operates three specialist systems, MYOB Greentree, MYOB Acumatica and Oracle NetSuite practices in New Zealand. Ideation Partners is a separate data and AI practice, deliberately not a systems implementation business.

How big are the businesses you usually work with?

Mid-sized. Large enough to be running several systems with years of history in them, and small enough that the leadership team can make a decision in a single meeting. If you are not sure whether that is you, the list on Who we help will settle it faster than a revenue figure would.

Start with a conversation, not a commitment

No preparation, no slides, no obligation. Tell us what is frustrating you and we will tell you honestly whether there is anything here worth doing, and what the first step would cost if there is. If the answer is that you do not need us yet, we will say that too.
